You can’t change someone’s mind by arguing with them, you can only change your own mind, and that’s what you should be focusing on. If the person doesn’t want to hear what you have to say, then that’s their problem, not yours. You shouldn’t waste your time trying to convince them that they’re wrong, because they’re not going to listen to you. Instead, you should focus on what you’re going to do to make sure that you never make the same mistake again.

2. Try to change the person’s mind

If you try to convince someone that what they’re saying is wrong, you’re probably going to end up looking like a fool. You should never try to change someone else’s mind, because it’s not your place to do so. It’s their job to convince you, not the other way around. If someone is telling you that you’re doing something wrong, then they’re probably right, so you should listen to what they have to tell you. If not, don’t waste any more of your time on it, because you’re only going to look bad by trying to change what they said. You need to focus on learning from your mistakes, and not on trying to defend yourself against people that are trying to help you.

4. Get angry

It’s easy to get angry when you’re getting feedback, especially if it’s negative, but you should never let that anger get the best of you. You have to learn to control your emotions, because if you can’t do that, then your business is going to suffer, and your customers are going to be the ones that suffer the most. When someone is giving you feedback about your business, they’re doing it because they care about you, and they want to see you succeed. They’re not trying to hurt you, they just want you to succeed, so if you let your emotions get in the way of that, you’ll be the one that will suffer. Where reading will really improve your essay writing is when you start reading actively. This just means that when you tackle a book or a text that is relevant to your essay topic with a specific aim in mind.

For example, if you’re writing an essay on the use of onomatopoeia in a poem, you’ll automatically read the poem looking out for words that phonetically recreate the sound they are trying to describe, words like “meow” for example. Similarly, you can actively read any book, paper, journal, or article to observe the style, language, grammar, vocabulary, structure, and anything else you want to learn to use better in your own writing. This is really useful because humans learn through mimicry. So, if you’re supposed to be writing an essay to apply for a scholarship (if you’re looking for a scholarship in Canada check out this list ) it might help to read through examples of successful scholarship essays and look at what worked for the applicants. Was it their style, clarity, focus, structure, etc.? So learn to read actively, and whenever you have a specific type or topic of the essay to write, try to find one or two good examples of previously written essays to understand what the end reader is looking for.

Practice writing with a purpose. There are two reasons why you might get stuck writing and improving your essays. The first is that you might not have a process before you actually start writing. Trust me, no one just gets a writing prompt, sits in front of a blank screen, and 30 minutes later has produced a flawless piece of writing. Just. Does. Not. Happen. Writing an essay is a process that begins with some brainstorming and outlining (at the very least), followed by the first draft. So create a pre-writing process that works for you.

The second reason is that you’re probably not fully aware that all writing has a simple and basic structure that is adapted depending on the type of essay you are required to write and the subject area involved. How to Find that Monday Motivation: My Own 5 Favorite Tips

One of the simplest but also most powerful habits I use to find and increase the motivation for my Monday and week is to plan in the fun things first into my daily and weekly schedule.

Plus, planning the fun and light parts in first makes it a lot more likely that you’ll actually do them and not just push them away to “someday” because you think your schedule is too full and busy.

Monday Motivation - Stop

It can be hard to find that motivation you need – and to keep it up – if you let yourself get distracted into procrastinating. Or dragged down into pessimism by websites or social media channels that you visit too often.

I put it at the other end of our home when I work. Another good way to do this – in for example an office – is to put the phone in silent mode and then in the bottom drawer of the desk in your work space (at least for 30-60 minutes as you focus on one of your most important task).

If they distract you or drag you down into negativity too often then simply unsubscribe. At least try it out for a week and see how being unsubscribed affects your motivation, mindset and results.

Because, in my experience, that’s what tends to work the best to actually get started and to get things done when you’re in that headspace (rather than beating yourself up or putting more pressure on yourself).

So break your important task down into smaller steps. Then find the first small step you can take to move forward and get started. For me it is usually a step that only takes 5-10 minutes to complete.

If you beat yourself up when you make a mistake or when things don’t go as planned then that can quickly deflate your motivation for the day or whole week and make you feel like giving up.
